Information we collect about visitors

When you visit UltraLive:

• Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager, records anonymous usage statistics: pages viewed, device and browser type, approximate location and which features are used. It uses cookies for this.
• Your settings (language, distance unit, theme, filters) and the runners you star are saved only in your own browser. While you follow a live race, the start numbers you have starred are counted with the visit, without saying who you are; your settings are not sent to us.
• While a runner's details are open, the site tells our server that someone is following that runner, without saying who, so that updates about that runner can be written.
• When you turn on notifications for a runner, your browser's push address, its language and distance unit, and the runners you get notifications about are stored, only to send those notifications. The notification goes through your browser maker's push service (Google, Apple, Mozilla or Microsoft). The runners are deleted a day after the race, and a push address that is no longer used after 30 days.
• UltraLive also counts visits itself, without cookies: which pages are opened, which site linked here, the type of device, the language, the country (from the connection, and nothing more precise), whether the share button was used, whether the site was opened as an installed app and, on live pages, which tab and which filters are in use. A random number that lives only while the browser tab is open ties the pages of one visit together. It cannot tell us who you are, and the counts are kept only as totals.
• To estimate how many different people visit each day, our server combines your IP address and browser type with a random value that changes every midnight and is then deleted. Only the resulting code is kept, and only for that day; your IP address is never stored.
• If you use "Tell us" to report something, we store what you chose and wrote, with the page, race and runner it is about, the open tab, the language, the screen width, the type of device, the browser's name and the site's version, so that we can find the problem. We never store your IP address or anything else about who you are, and reports are deleted after 90 days.

Legal basis for these statistics: our legitimate interest in knowing how the site is used (GDPR article 6.1 f). They use no cookies and nothing that outlives the browser tab, so there is no cookie banner.

Because there are no accounts, we do not collect visitors' names, email addresses or passwords. The only sign-in is for the site's administrator.

Runners' data

Results pages show runners' names, bib numbers, gender, nationality, club, age or age group, times and splits, and sometimes a photo. This comes from the race organiser and the timing provider, and results history comes from the DUV ultramarathon statistics. It is published so that the race can be followed and its results kept. If you are a runner and want something corrected or removed, contact us.

How we use the information

We use it to:

• Show live and final results, splits, charts and statistics
• Correct errors in results and runners' details that visitors tell us about
• Understand how the site is used and make it better

Third-party services

We use the following services:

• Google: Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics for usage statistics, and Google sign-in for the administrator
• Supabase: Supabase for the database
• Vercel: Vercel for hosting

These services have their own privacy policies that govern how they handle your data.

Data retention

Results are kept as the lasting record of each race. UltraLive's own visit counts are kept as totals per day, and per minute for live races; the per-visit rows are deleted after the day, or a few hours after the race. Reports sent with "Tell us" are deleted after 90 days. Google Analytics keeps its statistics for as long as it is set to.
